KEEPING YOUR HOME CLEAN IN THE MID-SUMMER
Summer is upon us, and we are right in the middle of it. In no time at all, summer will come to an end. School and the fall are on the horizon.
In terms of maintaining a clean house, summer provides some challenges, what with the children being around the house. However, this does not mean that we should stave off cleaning until after the season has come and gone.
It is in every household’s best interest to keep their homes clean, even in mid-summer. This will help reduce the amount of effort down the line. Furthermore, a clean house is always a good thing to have for you and your family.
We here at Tiger Effects have several useful tips that will help you keep your home clean in the mid-summer. Use these tips to keep a tidy household and to prepare your home for the coming seasons as well.
Tips to Keep Your Home Clean in the Mid-Summer
Remember to Ventilate
Summer and humidity add up to one thing: molds. This is a big problem especially in areas that have some natural moisture. These areas can include places like the kitchen, the bathroom, and basements.
In order to avoid molds, the best thing to do is to keep the areas well ventilated. This is a very easy thing to do. In most cases, all it takes is the opening of a window or a door.
However, if problems still persist, then maybe it’s time to look at other tools that can help you out through it. You can look into getting a dehumidifier. For larger investments – and better comfort – you may also want to invest more in an air conditioning unit.
Additional tips here include limiting the amount of humidity you introduce into your household. Things like having multiple hot showers and drying laundry indoors are actions that introduce humidity and therefore contribute to molds. You can also try grilling food outside as well.
Apart from fending off nasty molds, ventilation has a ton of other positive benefits that you can bring into your home. These include benefits like cleaning the air inside the house, expelling a build-up of bacteria and pollutants, and even fixing health problems like headaches, asthma, and allergies just to name a few.
Don’t Ignore Dusting and Vacuuming
Many people think that the summer season plus good ventilation means that there is no need to dust and vacuum anymore. They reason that the ventilation already helps to decrease the dust and dirt, preventing it from adding up.
This couldn’t be farther from the truth.
While ventilation is generally a good thing and introduces many positive benefits, it is also important to remember that the air that comes from outside also has some pollutants. This could include things like dust, pollen, and many other particles.
All of these things come in from the outside and accumulate as the days go by. Left unchecked, you’ll soon notice them as they gather together on floors and various other surfaces.
Remember to dust and vacuum your home consistently. Utilize a vacuum cleaner that can trap certain allergens, containing them rather than blowing them into other parts of the house.
For dusting, it is important to keep in mind that the process of dusting is a very restrained and focused task. Mindlessly dusting away would only spread the contaminants to other parts of the house. Focus on gathering and collecting these contaminants so you can get rid of them easily.
Flip Mattresses and Change Bedding’s
Many people often overlook the importance of maintaining their sleeping areas. When mid-summer comes around, this is a great time to flip the mattress.
For this, you may need to get help from other people in the house. You have the option of flipping the mattress or turning it 180 degrees. This ensures a fresher and cleaner surface.
For cleaning mattresses, we suggest using baking soda with essential oils. When that has been applied, then you can vacuum away dirt and contaminants for a fresher feeling mattress.
The other thing that should be done on a regular basis is changing the bedding’s. With all the possible contaminants coming in, it is always a good idea to have fresh bedding’s each and every week.
This is doubly important if there are house inhabitants that have allergies.
De-clutter and Donate
The final tip we have for you is to simply declutter. The mid-summer season is a good time to have everyone in the house look at what they have and do away with things that are just taking up space.
A good practice that you and your family can do is to give trash bags to everyone and have them walk around their own rooms and areas. If they find something they don’t use anymore, place it in the bag. These could be items and even clothes.
The items in these bags will be great donations for those in need. Doing this in mid-summer is also a great way to liven the home, as it gives you more space and a general fresher feeling.
Don’t Wait to Clean
The summer time may seem like an ideal time to take a load off and relax. However, if cleaning is neglected, it could result in an unclean environment and the accumulation of dirt and bacteria.
Make a habit of cleaning throughout the seasons, especially during mid-summer.
